Technician
What
is a technician?
A technician
is a member of one of our external services groups who is responsible
for the inspection, testing, maintenance (ITM), and installation of
our customers' equipment. At Webb, Murray & Associates, a technician
gains the knowledge and experience to perform detailed inspections of
fire protection and alarm systems and to make the necessary repairs
for system and equipment problems found during inspections. A technician
is also able to perform system troubleshooting and to isolate system
problems during emergency call-outs. Many technicians are responsible
for scheduling their own work, ordering equipment, and seeing a job
through to its completion.
Above
all, Webb, Murray is looking for intelligent people who are trustworthy,
who want to increase their knowledge and skills, and who enjoy both
personal responsibility and teamwork.
As an
entry-level technician you should have basic skills in mechanical and/or
electrical work, but your real expertise will be gained through on-the-job
training and experience. You'll begin by assisting one of our lead technicians
on actual ITM or installation jobs. In time, you'll develop a comprehensive
knowledge of sprinkler systems, foam fire extinguishing systems, carbon
dioxide systems, wet and dry chemical systems, clean agent systems,
gas detection systems, state-of-the-art fire alarm and plant alarm systems,
and other installations and devices. During your first 12 months as
a technician, you'll be required to pass the examinations for your state's
fire alarm technician license and fire extinguisher technician license,
for which Webb, Murray will furnish training and study materials.
Opportunities
for technicians
As you
learn and develop your technical skills, you'll have opportunities to
assume greater responsibilities, to coordinate jobs, and to serve as
our contact with our customers and their engineers. Senior technicians
who have demonstrated superior knowledge and interpersonal skills can
advance to the position of a senior leader, who is responsible for an
entire external services group. Some technicians decide to pursue further
studies, pass various levels of NICET
certification, and become system designers, working with computer aided
design (CAD) systems at our central design location. Other technicians
who have continued their education and have developed strong organizational
skills are sometimes assigned project management roles.
We're
personally interested in each of our associates. If you believe you
have the qualities we're looking for in a technician, we'd like to discuss
your future and tell you more about Webb, Murray & Associates. Please
call Pamela Owen at 281-480-0025, extension 276, for more information.
