three-year period in October 1980. The first year of that contract
represented approximately 30% of the company's total business.
As a result of its rapid growth, the company was recognized by INC
Magazine in 1982, 1983, and 1984 as one of the 500 fastest-growing
privately-held companies in the United States. And as a result of
the company's superior service and efficient operations, high marks
were earned from NASA. Performance ratings were consistently in the
high 90s, and several quarterly scores of 100 were received. In 1982,
the company was selected as the Johnson Space Center's Small Business
Contractor of the Year.
Between 1980
and 1994, we successfully participated in two more competitions for
the work at NASA. And, during those 14 years, our work in the chemicals,
petrochemicals, and refining industries continued to grow and expand
geographically. In 1993, a strategic decision was made, and the company
notified NASA that it did not intend to participate in the next competition.
That strategic decision was made to enable the company to concentrate
more of its attention and resources on its core customers, which by
that time included a steadily increasing number of Fortune 500 companies.
Since moving away from government work in late 1994, our non-government
revenues have more than doubled, and they continue to grow steadily.
